The Deadline for Submitting Comments to the Election Assistance Commission about requiring documentary proof of United States citizenship to register to vote in federal elections is October 20.
So far, the EAC’s portal for receiving comments has received more than 15,000 comments about this rule-making that the EAC is statutorily empowered to undertake under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA).

Per the EAC: On July 16, 2025, the Election Assistance Commission received a petition for rulemaking submitted by America First Legal Foundation, asking the Commission to amend 11 CFR 9428.4 and the federal voter registration form to require documentary proof of United States citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.
