VA Early Voting Summary (Oct. 20, 2025)

With two weeks to go in the 45-day early voting stretch before Virginia’s 2025 General Election (Nov. 4th), we see the remarkable voting turnout during early voting going strong, now estimated at 11%.

The tally is up by 2-1 over the same time in 2021 when Virginia held a gubernatorial election. In 2021 some 54% of the electorate turned out as of Election Day.

As of Oct 20, 2025: The early vote summary data show 656,883 ballots in “countable” status (On Machine + Marked and Pre-Processed Mail-in).

Of that countable number, On Machine voters are 448,251.

Mail in Ballot tally: 218,619, about a third of the countable ballots.

Absentee ballot processing across localities is ongoing with 236,327 ballots “still out.”

The deadline to apply for an absentee by mail ballot is Friday, Oct. 24.

But given the delays with many postal routes, we’re told that many voters are choosing to drop off their ballots at voting precincts’ dropboxes instead.

The data show more voters choosing to vote on machine during early voting so far.

The last time Virginia elected a House of Delegates, we saw less than half of the turnout as we see in the 2025 early voting period so far.

Key deadlines this week:

Friday, Oct. 24, 2025 is the DEADLINE to update your registration or register for regular balloting in the 2025 General Election.
